FAQs

  • We are currently taking students for the following instruments. (Zoom lessons are available for guitar, ukulele, and bass only.)

    • GUITAR (acoustic + electric)

    • UKULELE

    • DRUMSET

    • BASS

  • We want every student to feel confident and excited to learn from the very start! So we’ll provide a complete experience, where students learn a wide range of skills at a pace that’s just right for them, and with plenty of encouragement along the way. Our lessons are:

    • COMPLETE. We help each student become a confident and versatile musician, diving deep into rhythms and strumming, chords and scales, improvising, theory, ear-playing, and much more. Students will become great on their instrument, but they’ll also learn how music works. They’ll know why they’re playing what they’re playing, and they’ll grow in their overall musicianship, including the ability to create, hear, read, and write music.

    • FOCUSED. We take each student’s current abilities and goals into account, and help them develop through regular accountability and musical mentorship. The lessons are not a scatter-shot of random riffs, song snippets, scale fragments, and whatever else. Instead, students will walk a clear path that takes them from beginner to advanced.

    • LIFE-ENRICHING. We instill confidence and joy every step of the way. This is not about rote exercises and theory. Instead, learning an instrument will bless your life and the lives of those around you, and our goal is to help you get the most out of this experience.

  • 8-year-olds and up are welcome! We’ve found that by age 8, most students have developed:

    • Hand size and strength to be able to play notes and chords easily.

    • Longer attention spans that stay engaged and excited to learn for the full 30 minutes.

    • Reading and listening skills that allow them to get the most out of every lesson.

    • A lasting desire to learn an instrument.

  • Both methods offer unique advantages, and both provide a life-enriching, positive experience…

Our online courses are great for students who want a cost-effective option that doesn’t include travel or potential schedule conflicts. Students learn on their own time, at their own pace, and they can complete lessons whenever and wherever they wish. These online courses are exactly what I teach my in-person students, so it has the same look and feel as a 1-on-1 lesson with me in my personal studio.

Live lessons are great for students who want real-time feedback, accountability, and support. We offer in-person lessons in our Lexington, KY studio, or real-time Zoom lessons wherever you are! These lessons can be tailored to each student’s learning style, providing a highly personalized, uplifting experience. If you’re interested in live in-person or Zoom lessons, scroll down to reach out for current rates and available times, and to schedule your first lesson!

P.S. Did you know you don’t choose between one or the other? A la carte live lessons can be added to the online courses as needed, offering you the best of both worlds.

  • For sure! A lot can be accomplished in a 30-minute lesson. Students book single lessons for a variety of reasons:

    • INTRODUCTION. Some students have decided on online courses, but want at least one live lesson at the beginning, just to make doubly sure that they’re off to the right start, or to ask any unique questions they may have about their musical goals.

    • CHECK IN. Self-taught students will book a live lesson every so often (for example, once a month or once a quarter) just to touch base, get personalized, expert feedback on their playing and progress, or for accountability, encouragement, and support.

    • HELP. Every musician, even those who are mainly self-taught, need outside help from time to time. Sometimes students need help understanding a bit of music theory. Other times, they need help with an advanced technique. Or, sometimes they just feel stuck in their current ways and aren’t sure how to reach the next level. All great reasons to reach out for expert guidance!

    • SUPPLEMENT. A popular option is to supplement online courses with an occasional live lesson, providing a more complete learning experience.
